I’m Lily, and tonight I’m talking to Sarah, who will tell us about a strange letter she found.

So yesterday, I found a letter under my door with no name on it.
昨日、ドアの下に差出人の名前がない手紙を見つけたの。
リリー：
A mystery letter?
謎の手紙？
Nice.
いいね。
What did it say?
何て書いてあったの？
サラ：
It said, “Come to the old house at midnight.
「真夜中に古い家へ来い。
Accept this invitation or something bad will happen.”
この招待を受け入れなければ、悪いことが起こる」って書いてあったの。
リリー：
Something bad will happen?
悪いことが起こる？
That sounds interesting.
面白そう。
Did you go?
行ったの？
サラ：
Are you crazy?
正気なの？
No.
行ってないわよ。
I had to make a decision really fast, and I threw the letter in the trash.
すぐに決断しなきゃと思って、その手紙をゴミ箱に捨てたの。
リリー：
You threw it away?
捨てちゃったの？
But the old house at midnight sounds cool.
でも、真夜中の古い家なんて面白そうじゃない。
I would have gone to see what happens.
私なら何が起こるのか見に行ったのに。
サラ：
Lily, the letter had a strange sign at the bottom, a black circle with an I inside it.
リリー、その手紙の下には奇妙な印があったの。黒い丸の中に「I」が入っていたわ。
リリー：
An I symbol?
「I」のマーク？
Even better.
ますますいいじゃない。
So what happened next?
それで次は何が起きたの？
サラ：
I stayed in my room with all the lights on.
私は部屋の明かりを全部つけたまま、部屋にいたの。
Then at midnight, I heard footsteps outside my door.
すると真夜中に、ドアの外から足音が聞こえてきたの。
リリー：
Nice.
いいね。
Did you see who it was?
誰だったか見た？
サラ：
No.
いいえ。
I hid under my blanket.
毛布の中に隠れたの。
The footsteps stopped and then someone knocked three times very slowly.
足音が止まって、それから誰かがとてもゆっくり3回ドアをノックしたの。
リリー：
Three slow knocks?
ゆっくり3回ノック？
That’s actually pretty cool.
それ、かなり面白いじゃない。
You should have opened the door.
ドアを開ければよかったのに。
サラ：
I didn’t move or make any sound for two hours.
私は2時間、動きもせず音も立てなかったわ。
In the morning, I found another letter.
朝になると、また別の手紙を見つけたの。
リリー：
What did this one say?
今度は何て書いてあったの？
サラ：
It just said, “Wrong decision,” with that same creepy sign.
同じ不気味な印と一緒に、ただ「間違った決断だ」とだけ書いてあったの。
リリー：
So someone came to your house at midnight just to leave you a note?
じゃあ誰かが、メモを残すためだけに真夜中にあなたの家まで来たってこと？
That’s a lot of work.
