Vikram is standing outside his café, looking at his phone. His car won’t start.
ヴィクラムはカフェの外でスマートフォンを見ています。車のエンジンがかかりません。
Vikram: Oh no. The espresso machine is broken, and the repair shop has the part I need. But they close in thirty minutes!
ヴィクラム：しまった。エスプレッソマシンが壊れてしまって、修理店には必要な部品があるんだ。でも30分で閉まってしまう！
Lin rides up on her motorcycle.
リンがバイクに乗ってやって来ます。
Lin: Hey, Vikram, what’s wrong?
リン：ねえ、ヴィクラム、どうしたの？
Vikram: My car is broken. I need to get to the repair shop, but it’s too far to walk.
ヴィクラム：車が壊れたんだ。修理店まで行かなきゃいけないけど、歩くには遠すぎる。
Lin: Take the bus?
リン：バスは？
Vikram: The bus fare went up again, and it takes forty-five minutes. I don’t have time.
ヴィクラム：またバス代が値上がりしたし、45分もかかるんだ。時間がないよ。
Lin: Well, I can take you on my motorcycle. It’s fast and it’s free.
リン：じゃあ私のバイクに乗せてあげる。速いし、お金もかからないよ。
Vikram: Lin, I’ve never been on a motorcycle before.
ヴィクラム：リン、バイクに乗るのは初めてなんだ。
Lin: It’s easy. You just sit there and hold on. I do everything.
リン：簡単だよ。座ってしっかりつかまっていればいい。あとは全部私がやるから。
Vikram: That’s what I’m afraid of.
ヴィクラム：そこが心配なんだよ。
Vikram gets on the motorcycle. Five minutes later, they arrive. Vikram’s hands are shaking.
ヴィクラムはバイクに乗ります。5分後、二人は到着しました。ヴィクラムの手は震えています。
Vikram: Lin! You drove so fast! And why did we go through that tiny alley?
ヴィクラム：リン！すごく飛ばしたね！それに、どうしてあんな細い路地を通ったの？
Lin: It’s a shortcut, Vikram. I know every street in this neighborhood.
リン：近道だよ、ヴィクラム。この辺りの道は全部知ってるから。
Vikram: That alley was for people walking, not for motorcycles!
ヴィクラム：あの路地は歩行者用で、バイク用じゃないよ！
Lin: OK, fair point. Next time, I’ll go slower.
リン：なるほど、それはその通り。次はもっとゆっくり走るね。
Vikram goes inside the shop. When he comes back with a small box, Lin is eating a sandwich.
ヴィクラムが店に入り、小さな箱を持って戻ってくると、リンはサンドイッチを食べています。
Vikram: Where did you get that?
ヴィクラム：それ、どこで買ったの？
Lin: Oh, there’s an amazing sandwich shop nearby. I’ve wanted to try it for weeks.
リン：近くにすごくおいしいサンドイッチ屋さんがあるの。何週間も前から食べたかったんだ。
Vikram: Wait… is that why you offered to drive me here?
ヴィクラム：待って……それでここまで送るって言ったの？
Lin: Vikram, I’m generous. I helped a friend. I also got a great sandwich. Everyone wins.
リン：ヴィクラム、私は気前がいいんだよ。友達を助けられたし、おいしいサンドイッチも食べられた。みんな得してるでしょ。
Vikram: Let me try a bite.
ヴィクラム：ひと口ちょうだい。
Vikram takes a bite. His eyes go wide.
ヴィクラムはひと口食べます。すると目を大きく見開きました。
Vikram: OK… that is a really good sandwich.
ヴィクラム：なるほど……これは本当においしいサンドイッチだ。
Lin: So, same time next week? They have a meatball sub on Tuesdays.
リン：じゃあ来週も同じ時間でどう？火曜日はミートボールサンドがあるんだよ。
Vikram: My car will be fixed by then.
ヴィクラム：その頃には車は直っているよ。
Lin: I guess we’ll see about that.
リン：それはどうかな、見ものだね。
