Vikram is planning a vacation. He finds Lin behind the café, sitting on a milk crate and eating a sandwich.
ヴィクラムは旅行の計画を立てています。カフェの裏へ行くと、リンが牛乳ケースに座ってサンドイッチを食べていました。
Vikram: Lin! I need your help. I want to take Priti somewhere amazing for our anniversary.
ヴィクラム：リン、力を貸して！記念日にプリティを最高の場所へ連れて行きたいんだ。
Lin: Cool. Where are you thinking?
リン：いいね。どこを考えてるの？
Vikram: Well, I’ve been looking at every continent. Paris, Tokyo, Peru…
ヴィクラム：うーん、世界中を調べてるんだ。パリ、東京、ペルー……。
Lin: Wow. Those are all pretty far.
リン：わあ、どれもずいぶん遠いね。
Vikram: That’s the point! The farthest place possible. Something unforgettable.
ヴィクラム：それがいいんだよ！できるだけ遠くて、一生忘れられない場所がいいんだ。
Lin: On the other hand… have you considered not going far?
リン：でもさ……遠くへ行かないって考えたことはある？
Vikram: What do you mean?
ヴィクラム：どういうこと？
Lin: Like, what do you like best about vacations? Is it the flying for fourteen hours part?
リン：例えば、旅行の何が一番好き？14時間も飛行機に乗ること？
Vikram: No, it’s the food, the beauty, spending time with Priti.
ヴィクラム：いや、料理や景色、それにプリティと過ごす時間だよ。
Lin: Right. You can do all that without a passport.
リン：そうでしょ。それならパスポートがなくても全部できるよ。
Vikram: But it has to be special, Lin!
ヴィクラム：でも特別じゃなきゃダメなんだよ、リン！
Vikram pulls out a printed list of dream destinations. It’s three pages long.
ヴィクラムは憧れの旅行先リストを取り出しました。3ページもあります。
Lin: OK, how many days can you close the café?
リン：じゃあ、カフェは何日休めるの？
Vikram: Well… two days. Maybe three.
ヴィクラム：うーん……2日かな。頑張れば3日。
Lin: Vikram. You can’t go to Peru for two days.
リン：ヴィクラム、2日だけでペルーには行けないよ。
Vikram stares at his list. His shoulders drop.
ヴィクラムはリストを見つめ、肩を落としました。
Vikram: Oh no. You’re right.
ヴィクラム：ああ……その通りだ。
Lin: Just set up a nice dinner on the rooftop of our building. Candles, good food, the city skyline. Priti would love that.
リン：マンションの屋上で素敵なディナーを用意したら？キャンドルに、おいしい料理、それから街の夜景。プリティもきっと喜ぶよ。
Vikram: That’s… actually a beautiful idea, Lin.
ヴィクラム：それは……本当に素敵なアイデアだね、リン。
Lin: Yeah. And while you two are up there, just let me have the café keys so I can grab some cake.
リン：でしょ。それと2人が屋上にいる間、ケーキを取りに行きたいからカフェの鍵だけ貸して。
Vikram: You planned this whole thing just to get free cake, didn’t you?
ヴィクラム：無料でケーキを食べるために、この話を全部考えたんだろ？
Lin: No. But I’m not going to say no to free cake.
リン：いや。でも無料のケーキを断るつもりはないよ。
