It’s a hot summer day. Vikram is in his café, carefully making a new coconut lemonade.
暑い夏の日。ヴィクラムは自分のカフェで、新しいココナッツレモネードを丁寧に作っています。
Vikram: This is going to be the best beverage on the menu. I’ve been working on it all morning.
ヴィクラム：これはメニューの中でいちばんの飲み物になるぞ。朝ずっとこれに取り組んでいたんだ。
Lin walks in, looking very thirsty.
リンが、とても喉が渇いた様子で入ってきます。
Lin: Vikram, I’m dying. It’s so hot outside. What’s that?
リン：ヴィクラム、もう干からびそう。外、すごく暑いよ。それ何？
Vikram: It’s my new coconut lemonade! I’m still perfecting the recipe, so please don’t touch it.
ヴィクラム：新しいココナッツレモネードだよ！ まだレシピを仕上げている途中だから、お願いだから触らないで。
Lin picks up the glass and takes a big sip.
リンはグラスを手に取り、大きくひと口飲みます。
Lin: Hmm. It’s good. But it’s a little boring.
リン：うーん。おいしいよ。でも、ちょっと物足りないかな。
Vikram: Boring? I spent three hours on that recipe, Lin.
ヴィクラム：物足りない？ そのレシピに3時間もかけたんだよ、リン。
Lin: Three hours? For lemonade? Let me help.
リン：3時間？ レモネードに？ じゃあ手伝わせて。
Vikram: No, no, I have a plan. I really don’t want you to change anything.
ヴィクラム：いやいや、ちゃんと考えがあるんだ。本当に何も変えてほしくないよ。
Lin is already adding things to the glass. Lime. Chili. Ginger. Salt.
リンはもうグラスにいろいろ入れ始めています。ライム、チリ、ショウガ、塩。
Vikram: Lin, please stop putting random things in my lemonade.
ヴィクラム：リン、お願いだから僕のレモネードに適当なものを入れるのはやめて。
Lin: Trust me. Try it.
リン：信じて。飲んでみて。
Vikram takes a small sip. His eyes go wide.
ヴィクラムは少しだけ飲んでみます。すると、目を大きく見開きます。
Vikram: Oh… oh wow. Lin, this is amazing. It’s sour and sweet and spicy. It’s perfect!
ヴィクラム：おお……わあ。リン、これすごいよ。酸っぱくて、甘くて、スパイシーだ。完璧だよ！
Lin: See? Sometimes you just need a little chaos.
リン：ほらね？ ときにはちょっとしたカオスが必要なのよ。
Vikram: We’re going to sell so many of these! OK, make another one. Exactly the same.
ヴィクラム：これはすごく売れるぞ！ よし、もう一杯作って。まったく同じやつを。
Lin: Sure!
リン：もちろん！
Lin looks at the ingredients on the counter for a long time.
リンはカウンターの上の材料を、しばらくじっと見つめます。
Lin: So… I know what I put in it. But I don’t remember how much of each thing I used.
リン：ええと……何を入れたかはわかるんだけど、それぞれどれくらい入れたかは覚えてないの。
Vikram: You didn’t measure anything?
ヴィクラム：何も量らなかったの？
Lin: Vikram, I don’t even own a measuring spoon. I just grabbed things and threw them in.
リン：ヴィクラム、そもそも計量スプーンなんて持ってないの。適当に手に取って、そのまま入れただけよ。
Vikram: So every glass is going to taste different?
ヴィクラム：じゃあ、グラスごとに味が変わるってこと？
Lin: Think of it this way. Every glass will be a surprise! People love surprises.
リン：こう考えてみて。どのグラスもサプライズになるの！ みんなサプライズって好きでしょ。
Vikram: People do not love surprise chili in their lemonade, Lin.
ヴィクラム：リン、レモネードにサプライズでチリが入っているのなんて、みんな好きじゃないからね。
Lin: OK, OK, don’t worry. I’ll figure it out. But first, can I have the rest of that glass? I’m still really thirsty.
リン：わかった、わかった。心配しないで。なんとかするから。でもその前に、そのグラスの残りをもらっていい？ まだすごく喉が渇いてるの。
