Oscar arrives at Eddy’s house on a Saturday morning. He stops at the door and stares inside.
土曜日の朝、オスカーがエディの家にやって来ます。オスカーは玄関で立ち止まり、中を見つめます。
オスカー：
Eddy. What happened here?
エディ。ここで何があったんだ？
エディ：
What do you mean?

オスカー：
There are clothes on the couch, dishes on the floor, and… is that a shoe in the kitchen?
ソファには服、床には皿がある。それに……キッチンにあるのは靴か？
エディ：
Oh yeah, I was looking for that!
ああ、それ探してたんだ！
オスカー：
This is unacceptable. Where is your vacuum?
これはひどすぎる。掃除機はどこだ？
エディ：
Oscar, you don’t need to do that.
オスカー、そんなことしなくていいよ。
オスカー：
I am not sitting in this. I will take care of it myself.
こんなところには座れない。私が自分で片付ける。
Oscar finds the vacuum and begins cleaning the living room.

エディ：
Oscar, seriously, stop. Please.
オスカー、本当にやめてくれ。頼むよ。
オスカー：
Why? You want to live like this?

エディ：
No, but Junior is supposed to clean the house today. It’s his chore.
いや、でも今日はジュニアが家を掃除することになってるんだ。あいつの仕事なんだよ。
オスカー：
Your eight-year-old has chores?
8歳の子に家事をさせているのか？
エディ：
Yeah! He needs to learn responsibility. If you clean everything, he won’t learn anything.
そうだよ！責任感を身につけないといけないからな。君が全部掃除したら、あいつは何も学ばないだろ。
Oscar looks at the room. It is already very neat and clean.
オスカーは部屋を見渡します。すでにとてもきれいに片付いています。
オスカー：
Well. You should have told me that ten minutes ago.
そうか。それなら10分前に言ってくれればよかったのに。
エディ：
I tried!
言おうとしたよ！
オスカー：
Fine. I did Junior’s chore. He’s welcome.
まあいい。ジュニアの仕事は私がやってやった。感謝してもらいたいね。
エディ：
Wait… actually, Junior is the one who told me you were coming over today.
待てよ……そういえば、今日君が来るって教えてくれたのはジュニアなんだ。
オスカー：
So?
それがどうした？
エディ：
He made the mess this morning.
あいつが今朝、この散らかりを作ったんだ。
オスカー：
He knew I would clean it?!
私が掃除するって分かってたのか？！
エディ：
Yeah. My kid is smarter than both of us.
ああ。うちの子は俺たち二人より頭がいいな。
オスカー：
I am not smarter than an eight-year-old. I am exactly as smart. There’s a difference.
私は8歳の子より頭がいいわけではない。同じくらい頭がいいんだ。そこは違う。
