It’s Saturday morning. Eddy and Junior are in the kitchen.
土曜日の朝です。エディとジュニアはキッチンにいます。
エディ：
OK, Junior, today we clean the house. And your first job is to take the garbage out.
よし、ジュニア、今日は家の掃除をするぞ。最初の仕事はゴミ出しだ。
ジュニア：
Dad, I’m only eight. That garbage bag is really big. What if it’s too heavy for me?
パパ、僕まだ8歳だよ。そのゴミ袋、すごく大きいよ。もし僕には重すぎたらどうするの？
エディ：
It’s not too heavy! You carry your backpack every day!
重すぎることなんてない！毎日リュックを背負ってるだろ！
ジュニア：
My backpack has books in it. Books are important. Garbage is just… garbage.
僕のリュックには本が入ってるんだよ。本は大事でしょ。ゴミはただの……ゴミだよ。
エディ：
Junior, you have to learn responsibility.
ジュニア、責任というものを学ばないといけないぞ。
ジュニア：
I am responsible! I take care of Sugar every day! I feed her, I talk to her…
僕はちゃんと責任感あるよ！毎日シュガーの世話をしてるもん！ごはんをあげたり、話しかけたり……。
エディ：
You can’t just do the fun jobs. Sometimes you have to do messy jobs too.
楽しい仕事だけやるわけにはいかないんだ。時には汚れる仕事もしなきゃいけない。
ジュニア：
OK, I have an idea. Let’s make a chore chart. We split everything fairly.
分かった、いい考えがあるよ。家事の分担表を作ろう。全部公平に分けるんだ。
Junior writes something on a piece of paper and gives it to Eddy.
ジュニアは紙に何かを書いて、エディに渡します。
エディ：
Let me see this… Junior’s chores: “Check if the TV works.” “Taste the food.” “Supervise.”
どれどれ……ジュニアの仕事は「テレビがちゃんと動くか確認する」「料理の味見をする」「監督する」。
My chores: garbage, dishes, mopping, laundry, cooking…
俺の仕事は、ゴミ出し、皿洗い、床のモップがけ、洗濯、料理……。
Junior, this is not fair at all!
ジュニア、これ全然公平じゃないぞ！
ジュニア：
Supervising is very hard, Dad. You don’t even know.
監督するのはすごく大変なんだよ、パパ。パパには分からないんだよ。
エディ：
Just take the garbage out, please. One bag. That’s all I’m asking.
頼むからゴミを出してくれ。1袋だけだ。それだけでいいんだ。
ジュニア：
Fine!
分かったよ！
Junior takes the garbage bag and walks outside. He comes back ten seconds later.
ジュニアはゴミ袋を持って外へ出ます。10秒後、戻ってきます。
ジュニア：
Bad news. The garbage can outside is completely full. The bag doesn’t fit.
悪い知らせだよ。外のゴミ箱が完全にいっぱいだ。この袋は入らないよ。
エディ：
What? Let me go check.
何だって？ちょっと見てくる。
Eddy walks outside. Junior closes the door behind him.
エディが外へ出ます。ジュニアはエディの後ろでドアを閉めます。
ジュニア：
Dad, since you’re already out there with the garbage, you should just take care of it!
パパ、もうゴミと一緒に外にいるんだから、そのまま片付けちゃえばいいよ！
エディ：
Junior! Open the door!
ジュニア！ドアを開けろ！
ジュニア：
I can’t, Dad! I’m supervising!
無理だよ、パパ！僕は監督中だから！
